About This Place

Located in the heart of Orillia at 144 Mississaga St E, Shine Plant Based Kitchen is a vibrant culinary gem that redefines the plant-based dining experience. Specializing in vegan, gluten-free, and coffee shop fare, this restaurant artfully blends health-conscious ingredients with bold, global flavors that satisfy even the most discerning palates.

As you step inside Shine, you’re welcomed by a bright, clean, and inviting atmosphere that echoes the freshness of its menu offerings. The ambiance strikes a perfect balance between casual comfort and modern charm, making it an ideal spot for everything from a relaxed coffee break to a hearty lunch with friends or family.

The menu itself is a celebration of creative plant-based cuisine. Dive into their signature Portobello Steak Sandwich, a dish lauded by meat lovers and vegans alike for its rich, smoky depth and juicy texture that rivals any traditional steak sandwich. For those craving something vibrant and packed with umami, the Asian Noodle Bowl and Asian Dumpling Noodles deliver irresistible layers of flavor, perfectly balancing fresh vegetables with savory sauces.

Shine’s Beyond Meat Burger and Black Bean Burger are other standout options, meticulously crafted to offer juicy, satisfying bites free from animal products but full of heartiness that leaves you feeling nourished and delighted. The Beyond Bacon Cheeseburger is a must-try for anyone curious about vegan takes on classic comfort foods, with its smoky “bacon,” melty plant-based cheese, and a toasted bun that’s pure bliss.

For lighter, fresh options, the Thai Salad and Butternut Squash Sandwich bring vibrant colors and bright, crisp flavors to the table, showcasing Shine’s dedication to seasonal, wholesome produce. Don’t miss the Hangover Smoothie—a refreshing and revitalizing blend that’s both healing and indulgent.

Beyond their innovative entrees, Shine also excels in offering delightful sides like Kettle Chips with Two Dips, crispy Potato Wedges, and a classic plant-based Caesar Salad that’s both satisfying and light. Their Carrot Ginger Soup is a comforting prelude to any meal, with a silky, spiced warmth noted by many patrons as a highlight.

The dining experience at Shine is made even more memorable by the attentive and friendly service, which several guests have praised for making them feel right at home. Customer Anna Giakoumatos shares how the clean environment and exceptional service elevated her visit well beyond expectations, despite not being vegan herself. Likewise, T McKay’s glowing review of the sweet potato perogie grilled cheese sandwich paired with fresh salads exemplifies the love and care infused in each dish.

Shine Plant Based Kitchen doesn’t just cater to vegans or vegetarians; it wins over omnivores with flavor-packed dishes that challenge preconceptions about plant-based food. Bea Nguyen admits that the Portobello sandwich exceeded her expectations, offering a taste that felt deeper and more satisfying than many meat-based options she’s tried. Sidney Howlett’s testimony that even her “carnivore husband” prefers the burgers from Shine, whether fresh or reheated from to-go orders, speaks volumes about the quality and authenticity of this eatery.

In sum, Shine Plant Based Kitchen is much more than a restaurant; it’s a culinary destination for anyone looking to experience plant-based dining at its finest. Whether you’re seeking comforting classics with a vegan twist, international flavors that excite your palate, or simply a welcoming spot to enjoy a wholesome meal, Shine promises to deliver with passion and precision.

For a delightful journey of taste and texture that’s as nourishing as it is delicious, Shine Plant Based Kitchen is truly a must-visit in Orillia’s vibrant food scene.

This place is amazing. I am not a vegan, but this turned out better than I thought. Very clean place and great service. I am hoping this business will expand to London Ontario as this is my hometown. I hope the pictures of what my classmates, Maria, Kayla, Ben, Allison C, Swak, Lana, Jon, and I eat and hope this will encourage more customers. My only critic is to have pictures for those who like pictures so it can help costumers decide faster.

As a meat lover, I was skeptical about the mushroom sandwich but wow it blew my expectations out of the water. My partner and I agreed it tasted better than most meat sandwiches we’ve had, the flavour was so deep and morish. The perogi bowl was amazing as well!

A must try for any vegetarians or vegans. My favourite is the chicken souvlaki but they also have the most flavourful burgers (we get them from the to-go freezer and make at home). Even my carnivore husband prefers their burgers over meat ones! The best lunch spot in town!

AMAZING! If you are veg, veeg, gluten free and/or just love delicious proper food GO HERE. You can taste the real ingredients, so fresh. I had the Asian bowl, my partner had the sweet potato pierogi grilled cheese and we both had the hangover smoothie + matcha. Truly every single bite/sip was so delicious. Speedy friendly lovely service. Great atmosphere. Counter for fresh food and drink with a fridge and freezer for take away meals. Nice bar rail overlooking the cute main street, great people watching. This place is sincerely perfect. Returned for my second visit, adding new photos and more 5 star reviews! Best quality food and service. Supreme playlist hitting all the genres that us 80s babies love. Thank you!

Wow, the food here is both delicious and nurturing. I have tried a lot of vegan cafes in Toronto and Shine Plant Based Kitchen triumphs over them all. Both items I got were incredible. Literally, 6/5 ⭐. You will not regret coming here.

Love this place! Loved the food! Available gluten-free/dairy-free options. Mine was truly delicious! (Lunch was under $20.) Kudos to their chef/owner and his lovely wife! The restaurant is clean and cared-for. Casual, bright decor with a ‘garage door’ roll-up that’s open in warmer weather. Parking is on street or Municipal P close by.
